mapusa: Several encroachments were spotted across the various parking areas causing a lot of inconvenience to those frequenting the Mapusa market on Friday, November 30.
In order to control the encroachments in the market area barely two months ago, the Mapusa Municipal Council unanimously resolved to increase the fine amount from Rs 50 to Rs 500. This seems to have failed to curb the illegal activities and encroachment in the city.
The Friday market frequented by several people from across Bardez as usual wore a congested and messy look. The MMC is adopting corrective measures to bring about discipline in the layout of the market and also pledges to act against vendors encroaching the footpaths, parking areas and other open spaces of the municipal market.
Stating that the vendors encroach upon the parking areas in Mapusa, a local, Shekhar Naik said “On Friday they have begun sitting and selling items even in front of the fish market”.
Another local, Akash Talaulikar said that there are vendors who block the parking area by sitting with their products in a vehicle. “Forget the footpaths, on a Friday these vendors are sitting and selling their items in the parking area fearlessly. They do not even leave the area marked for the motorcycle stand behind the bus stand. The MMC should act into this matter at the earliest as it is causing a lot of inconvenience to those visiting the market,” he said.
