PANJIM:  Classes IX to XII are set to reopen in offline mode from Monday. The Task Force on COVID management has granted its nod for commencement of offline classes for secondary and higher secondary students.

Emerging from the Task Force meeting, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that the committee has decided to reopen schools in physical mode for students of Class IX to XII from Monday, October 18.

Schools up to the higher secondary level in the State have been shut since March, while the academic year commenced from June 21 in online mode.

The State government had recently allowed colleges to reopen for the academic year. The Government also permitted higher secondary schools to conduct Class XI and XII term examinations, scheduled from next week, in offline mode.

The expert committee on COVID had last month recommended that classes can resume in hybrid format, on the basis of a 2.5 per cent Covid-19 positivity rate in the State.

Sources said that teachers who are fully vaccinated will be allowed in the school premises and those without vaccination will be asked to produce RTPCR negative report every week.

Schools in containment zones, if any, will not be permitted to open.
