PONDA: The mud dumped at Opa Khandepar junction has become a cause of worry for the residents as they demanded that the same be cleared or else it would lead to flooding during monsoon.

According to locals, the mud was dumped by the side of the service road of the National Highway while carrying out the widening work.

According to Sandeep Parkar, a resident, two to three houses located at Opa Khandepar junction often face flood-like situation due lack of proper drainage facility, but recently the NH officials constructed a cross culvert on NH to drain the water. However as Khandepar river overflows, the huge mud dumped at site recently is likely to worsen the situation, and needs to be cleared before monsoon. In case of heavy showers, the mud may flow and choke the cross culvert built on the highway and cause flooding in the area.

Besides clearing mud, he demanded that a drain connecting the culvert built below NH should be constructed to ensure the free flow of monsoon water flowing through roadside gutters.

Parkar said that the approach road work of the new Khandepar Bridge is 90 per cent completed, however there is need to clear the huge mud dump located by the side of the service road of approach road to bridge to prevent flooding at Opa Khandepar Junction.
