MARGAO: In a raid on rented premises at Benaulim, the police busted an IPL betting den and arrested eight Karnataka natives who were allegedly running the den.

At 11.35 pm on May 4, the Colva police raided the premises located near I Jack Corner at Vaswaddo Vaddie, Benaulim and busted the betting den.

The police arrested Bhushan Pujari, Rishikesh Krishnaji Patil, Kapil Sawant, Omkar Pramod Patil, Afrid Nadumbil, Tohil Bidikar, Shubham Patil and Sayed Ali Bagwan all residents of Khanapur, Belagavi district of Karnataka.

Police said they were caught red handed operating the betting racket by accepting cash to bet on the IPL cricket match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans.

The police attached mobile phones along with other material used for betting and a vehicle, all valued at Rs 18 lakh.

Acknowledging that betting is quite common during such tournaments, the Colva Police is on the lookout for other similar betting dens within its jurisdiction operated by people from outside Goa who take secluded premises on rent.
