VASCO: An unknown person’s telephonic complaint reportedly made Vasco police stop the flag post installation work near Vasco Railway Station, on Tuesday.

Shami Salkar, wife of Mormugao Municipal Council’s councillor Krishna (Daji) Salkar along with other councillors claimed that they had the approval from South Western Railway and verbal approval from MMC chairperson for the installation of the flag post.

“It is a very sad day for us that the installation work of the flag post was stopped in between, on Tuesday evening, by the Vasco police,” Shami said.

She also mentioned that for this work, her husband Krishna Salkar, has got the verbal approval from the MMC Chairperson Nandadeep Raut. Krishna had also written to the South Western Railways mentioning about the project and it got approved.

Shami said that it is a matter of shame that such work related to patriotism is being hindered by some persons.

Councillor Rochana Borkar also opined that if the flag post would come up before January 26, on Republic Day, then it would have been a matter of pride for the Vasco people.

“It is a very sad state of affairs that people who are trying to erect National Flag Post near railway station to promote sense of patriotism among people are being stopped by some unknown people.”

Nandadeep stated that councillor Krishna called him on the phone and informed that he is willing to install a national flag post at Vasco railway station.

"Listening to this, I asked him to inward letter asking for the permission and also gave remark on that letter stating that the proposal is needed to be put forward in the council meeting. I feel all the councillors will agree with this proposal for installation of national flag,” chairperson stated.

He further said that he was unaware as to who had given a telephonic complaint to Vasco police and the work was stopped.

Meanwhile, sources from the Vasco police revealed that the wife of the councillor along with other councillors met Police Inspector Nilesh Rane and explained the entire matter.
