PANJIM: The Congress party has expelled its general secretary Trajano D’Mello from party membership for a period of six years for his anti-party activities, specially his recent anguish against party’s State leadership over failure to form the government in Goa.

In an order issued on Wednesday, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) Vice President M K Shaikh has said that, at its State executive committee meeting held on April 20, it is unanimously resolved to expel D’Mello from primary membership of Indian National Congress Party for a period of six years.

He said that during the meeting, the members took strong notice and cognizance of the anti-party utterances, activities and acts of D’Mello, for his acts of maligning the GPCC and damaging the dignity of the party through his motivated, unfounded and baseless statements and acts in the run upto the general elections and continuing till date.

“By his said acts of attacking the dignity of party organization and maligning image of the party through his statements in the press and his anti-party activities, the executive committee unanimously observed the said acts as constituting gross indiscipline necessitating and warranting strict disciplinary action in the nature of expulsion from the primary membership of the party,” Sheikh said.

The various blocks committees like Mandrem, Mormugao and Cuncolim have strongly condemned D’Mello’s attack on party leadership.

Just ahead of February 2017 elections, D’Mello had distanced himself from the party over its failure to form pre-poll alliance with likeminded parties and its subsequent failure to form the government despite emerging as single largest party with 17 seats.
