MAPUSA: The Congress Party on Sunday filed a complaint before the Chief Election Officer (CEO) seeking action against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) North Goa candidate Shripad Naik, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and State party president Sadanand Shet Tanavade and demanded cancellation of Naik’s candidature for gross violations of the model code of conduct. It further demanded an FIR be lodged against the candidate.

In its complaint, the Congress party has alleged that the trio were “continuously making deliberate false statements of fact in relation to the personal character/conduct of the Congress candidate Ramakant Khalap based on unverified allegations or distortion in relation to the Mapusa Urban Co-operative Bank Ltd.”

“Pramod Sawant who is the Chief Minister in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, went to the extent to call the Congress candidate ‘Lootaru who has looted the Mapusa Urban Cooperative Bank” in the public meeting held on May 3, 2024 in front of a crowd which BJP itself claims was 60,000 at Mapusa when the Congress candidate’s election affidavit clearly discloses that there is not a single/case FIR against Khalap,” the complaint stated.
