Yatish says issues of State capital have remained unsolved and neglected

PANJIM: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) Spokesperson Yatish Naik on Saturday said that for the last 23 years Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has left the issues of Panjim unaddressed and that the Rs 50 crore announced in the 2012 budget was never released to CCP.

Addressing the media, Naik said, “This will be the third election in Panjim in the last five years. The BJP candidate Manohar Parrikar has been an MLA of Panjim for 23 years but the issues of Panjim have remained the same and have been kept unsolved and neglected.”

He added, “Every monsoon the city witnesses flooding but nothing have been done in spite of Panjim being under a BJP MLA for 23 years. St Inez creek has not been addressed and rejuvenated. Parking problems are at their worst. Garbage issues have been left unattended.  The same Chief Minister stood on the rooftops and protested for land to be released from the defence forces in Panjim to help civic amenities grow but after becoming Defence Minister he did not do anything.”

Naik said that despite being the capital city of Goa, Panjim, is facing problems like irregular water and electricity supply. The Miramar-Dona Paula road was dug up and fully concretized but the ride is terrible and bumpy in spite of spending crores of rupees. The infrastructure in Panjim is crying for attention, roads are dug up everywhere and there are bad footpaths.

“Before seeking the mandate of the people for this by-election, he owes the people explanations as to why he failed to solve the issues. The city requires good roads, clean environment, regular water and electricity supply to be named as a smart city,” Naik said.
