Cong slams govt for being lethargic in helping flood-hit

PANJIM: As the flood hit areas of Goa are slowly returning to normalcy, the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) the government for being lethargic in addressing the issue. 

“There is lethargic and careless attitude of the government and its agencies in preventing and attending to the hardships of the people of Goa. We demand immediate help to those in loss, and a fair and urgent compensation to be paid to those who lost their houses and crops,” Party President Girish Chodankar said in a press statement issued on Sunday. 

Taking a dig at BJP, the GPCC demanded to release funds in the same manner as the BJP spent money during elections. 

“Floods at Ibrahmpur in Pernem and Sal in Bicholim were due to failure of State Govt failure to coordinate with Tillari Dam authorities. We demand full compensation to affected,” he added. 

Chodanker along with office bearers also visited the two flood affected areas and assured to press to the authorities immediate assistance to the needy.

The monthly meeting of GPCC Office Bearers expressed appreciation and gratitude for exceptional leadership provided by Rahul Gandhi as Party President. 

GPCC has also decided to observe a year long programme of activities, commencing from August 20 as mark of respect to ex-PM late Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary
