Admits giving Panjim ticket for Babush was a blunder; Says BJP does not want political opponents
MARGAO: The Congress central observer for Goa, Dr Chella Kumar has said that they will file a disqualification against the 10 MLAs who have switched over to the BJP. Dr Kumar also said that giving ticket to Babush Monseratte for Panjim was the biggest blunder. He met the present leaders and representatives of Congress in Goa and had a discussion on the leadership for the State.
Dr Kumar who was at a hotel in Margao met Congress representatives. He said, "This is not the first time for Congress, so many people left Congress and in the course of time they were eliminated from the political scene. Some people who are greedy and have no political ethics are not going to damage the party. Not bothered about the individuals but concerned," he said.
"BJP doesn't want political opponents as they don't have the guts to face the Opposition's criticism in all the States," Dr Kumar added.
While urging people of Goa to have a re-think about this, Dr Kumar said that as a political party they have to field winnable candidates and if they don't they are criticised. You are answerable for hijacking the verdict of the people for own benefit you are answerable to the people".
"This defection is common to Goa politics. People looting money from Goa exchequer and they throw money to people and they get elected whichever party may be. Here itself all this entire episode starts and the day people stop electing such elements Goa will develop otherwise only individual development will take place, development of a family nothing else," he said
"BJP only trusts money strength. We will overcome this, we will work out a pan-country strategy. The party has been able to overcome in the past after facing" said Dr Kumar.
While speaking on the selection of CLP leader he said "CLP leader will come before the session. The GPCC president will take some time as many have submitted resignation".
While speaking of the workers he said, "Party workers and people are angry with the MLAs who have left. Even Nuvem and Cuncolim people have been against. Whose development have they gone for? their self-development," Dr Kumar said while adding that as long as people vote for defectors this stalemate will continue and it is for the people to take a call.
The Margao MLA Digambar Kamat said, "I was called by Dr Chella Kumar. I have informed him of what happened. I was shocked the leader of the opposition is going away. God has some other plan. I have always said that Congress has sizable fixed voters in every constituency, its that the leaders have ditched who are elected for 5 years. With this the anti-defection law needs to be reviewed," said Kamat.
