Says govt stand an insult to the land losers, who have been either paid peanuts or have not received any compensation till date

MARGAO: Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco in a letter to Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has reiterated his objection to the government stand of paying the companies that were allotted land for SEZ.

Referring to his earlier letters dated June 27, 2018 and August 7, 2018 to the then chief minister late Manohar Parrikar, Aleixo expressed surprise that the Goa Industrial Development Corporation has taken a loan of Rs 200 crore to pay back the SEZ promoters to reclaim the 38.4 lakh square metres of land allotted to them.

He said the pro-SEZ promoter stand of the BJP government was an insult to the land losers who have been either paid peanuts or have not received any compensation till date. He demanded that how could the government decide to pay the SEZ promoters without discussing the matter in the House particularly since the SEZ promoters had paid only Rs 108 crore.

Asserting that taking a loan of Rs 200 crore was uncalled for, Aleixo urged the Chief Minister to cancel this decision and decide upon the matter after a comprehensive debate on the matter at the next Assembly session.
