PANJIM: Even after three days, the remaining 5 MLAs in the Congress have failed to meet to elect a leader.

While Curtorim MLA  Reginaldo Lourenco is upset that despite there being only five now the party MLAs have not met, Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro has withdrawn himself from the potential candidate for the Leader of Opposition (LoP) position.

However, Congress Goa Desk Incharge Chella Kumar has informed that the remaining 5 MLAs will elect the LoP on Saturday with a consensus from amongst themselves.

Reginaldo said that he is pained by the affairs of the party. “Despite the fact that we are just five of us, we were suppose to me today (Friday) and we have not met. I am still waiting for the meeting to be convened. And GPCC president has resigned so who will be calling the meeting and approving the election of the CLP leader”, he stated.

He said the priority is the monsoon session of the Assembly. “The questions have not been uploaded nor have the answers been provided. There are a lot of issues of the people and my focus is on that. I will not be available on Saturday due to a personal function and I had informed this to Dr Chella Kumar. So I am waiting for their call for a meeting”, he added.

On the other hand, Faleiro said he had communicated to the Goa desk in-charge that he will not accept any position either in the party or in the House. “Dr Chella kumar met me and I have conveyed to him that I will not be accepting any position, neither as CLP leader nor as PCC president. Even in 2017 despite being elected as the leader of the CLP, I had refused to take up the responsibility and even now my position is the same”, he stated.

Kumar said that he met the five MLAs individually on Thursday and Friday and a leader of the CLP will be elected by them on soon.

Responding to the speculations of Reginaldo being made the CLP leader, he said “It is the decision of the MLAs and I have no say in it. What they decide will be known to all of you soon.”
