Constable’s arrest in Merces murder is a body blow to his vegetable vendor father’s family

PANJIM: A constable recruit, a Merces local, who had just joined the Goa Police and was undergoing training, was arrested in connection with the murder of history-sheeter Vishal Golatkar reported at Merces.

The police said Amey Volvoikar’s, 25, role in the murder case is being investigated by the Old Goa Police. He is currently undergoing training at the PTS, Valpoi. Amey’s arrest has shocked his family and neighbours. Amey has a younger sibling and the father is a vegetable vendor at Merces. On Sunday, the police arrested five accused Sai Kundaikar alias Cobra, Omkar Chari, Gauresh Gawas, Tushar Kundaikar and a minor, all hailing from Merces. The five accused were produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Panjim and were remanded in seven days in police custody for further investigation. 

As reported, in a move planned well in advance, five persons armed with sharp weapons allegedly murdered Vishal Golatkar at Merces.

Sharing details about the case, North Goa Superintendent of Police (SP) Nidhin Valsan had informed that Golatkar’s murder was a planned one. He was killed late Saturday night by Sai Kundaikar along with his accomplices Omkar, Gauresh and Tushar, all residents of Merces and a minor with sharp weapons including an iron rod. 

On Saturday night, Sai provoked Golatkar to visit a place near his house, where he and others attacked the victim with sharp weapons, causing severe injuries and leading to his death on the spot. Later, the accused persons used the victim’s two-wheeler to dispose of the body. Golatkar was murdered 1.5 km away from where his body was found.”

Golatkar’s body was found with sharp injuries near the Menezes’ factory.

The police informed that Golatkar had a criminal background and was reportedly involved in at least eight different cases registered at various police stations across the State. Cases of alleged robbery, kidnapping, murder threat, extortion, etc, stand registered against him. 

Based on the complaint filed by the deceased’s sister, the Old Goa Police registered FIR under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and further investigation is in progress.
