Consumers cheated due to lack of awareness: Gaude

PANJIM: Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Govind Gaude on Tuesday stated that cheating and fraud occur due to a customer’s ignorance and that consumers can be protected by effective awareness about their rights. 

“Incidents of cheating and fraud are done at the cost of the ignorance of consumer and that the only way through which consumers can be protected is with effective awareness about their rights,” Gaude said, addressing the gathering at the function on National Consumer Rights Day.

He said that the present trend of digital marketing also carries many challenges and to tackle these there is need of digital and financial literacy. He also appreciated consumers who were honoured for their courage against traders and trading companies.

Civil Supplies Secretary Rupesh Kumar Thakur, in his address, said that digital marketing provides easy accessibility and therefore most of people prefer to go for e-marketing. He added it also has its risks of stealing personal data therefore it is necessary to create awareness among consumers.
