VALPOI: Around 45 contract workers of the Water Resources Department, Valpoi on Monday demanded that the government should regularise their services failing which they threatened to hit the roads in protest.

At a press conference held in Sateri Temple, in Velus village, the workers demanded that the government should also release their pending salary of last six months.

“We are hardly getting salary of Rs 9,000 a month which often gets delayed. During the monsoon, the Lift Irrigation Scheme is stopped,” complained Arjun Salelkar, one of the workers.

“For last 17 years, we are working on Lift Irrigation Scheme of Water Resources Department Valpoi as contract workers. We sow the fields and work hard but we don’t get salary on time and the government is not ready to regularise our services”, says another worker Vasant Parab

“If the government fails to release our pending salary within next few days and regularise our services then we will all come on the roads.

During the covid pandemic, all 45 workers have worked for in fields without fear, still we did not get the and our family members are depends on us, says another worker Ganesh Gawas.
