Accused was admitted to GMC for health reasons and released on Friday; Issue over sand transportation from Kudal led to fight and traffic jam on National Highway

PONDA: Ponda police on Friday arrested Jaylesh Naik, residing at Panjim and a local from Ponda for brandishing a sword at three Savoiverem locals on the Bhoma National Highway over a fight regarding sand transportation from Kudal, Maharashtra.

Naik who was discharged from GMC on Friday was  booked under Arms Act and MMDR Act.

It may be recalled that following the incident on Wednesday at 6 pm Jaylesh's ccomplained of pressure problem  and was shifted to GMC. 

The two groups clashed on Wednesday with one brandishing a sword to threaten others. The sword brandishing act had shocked passers-by and had created an atmosphere of fear among commuters on the National Highway at Bhoma leading to halting of the traffic.

A video later went viral on social media showing one brandishing the sword and threatening others.

On Wednesday, contractor Jaylesh Naik had ordered a sand-laden truck from Kudal which was stopped by three Savoiverem locals at Bhoma as they were against importing sand from Maharashtra.  

Following this the driver of sand-laden truck contacted the contractor Jaylesh who arrived at spot in a car and got down with a sword and threatened the three Savoiverem locals for stopping his truck. Following his act of wielding the sword the three 

locals thrashed him along with truck driver from Kudal.

Thereafter police rushed to the spot and arrested the four following complaints and counter complaints from both the groups. 

While police arrested all the four involved in incident on the same day, Jaylesh could not be arrested as his health condition worsened and he was shifted GMC. He was immediately arrested by the Ponda Police on Friday after he was released from the GMC. 

The four arrested were released on bail on Thursday.
