MARGAO: Authorities from multiple agencies, including the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB), Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC), and the Colva panchayat, along with the contractor, conducted an inspection at the controversial public toilet facility on Colva beach following the recent directive from the High Court (HC).

Colva Sarpanch Suzie Fernandes, accompanied by panch members and the panchayat secretary, highlighted instances of sewage discharge into Colva creek during the night.

In response, tourism officials instructed the contractor to repair the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and ensure its operational functionality. Additionally, the contractor was tasked with arranging for a night soil tanker to remove sewage from the toilet block daily, with reporting requirements to both GTDC and the panchayat.

Earlier this week, the HC ordered that the public toilet be operationalised on Thursday, with the condition that under no circumstances, should sewage be allowed to be discharged into the creek or elsewhere.

The panchayat had earlier sought to close the facility due to sewage issues, but the HC ruled against it, citing the utilisation of public funds in the construction of the facility.
