MAPUSA: Criticising the economic policies of the BJP government, INDIA Bloc's North Goa Parliamentary candidate of Adv Ramakant Khalap said the State and country are saddled under a huge debt.

During his campaigning at Mala, Panjim, Khalap said that during the past 10 years, the country has “taken a direction for the worse.”

“There is a debt of Rs 35,000 crore on the State. Goa’s financial scenario is precarious. The same is the case with the country. Look at the Dollar-Rupee comparison. What has happened in the past 10 years? That is the indicator of where our country has reached. Slogans on making India a ‘Vishwaguru’ is not enough,” he said.

Khalap also hit out at the BJP for their mismanagement in holding a public rally at Mapusa on May 3.

“The Mapusa Market vendors are upset that the BJP held a huge public meeting near the market and this caused immense hardship to them,” he pointed out.

Khalap said that the present government is apathetic towards rising unemployment.

“During my tenure as IT Minister in the state government, we had envisioned creating a Smart State, on the lines of Panaji Smart City. We had formed a council of eminent scientists Dr Raghunath Mashelkar and others. We had started work on this, but the plan was tossed out by the government,” he stated.

“Everyone wants to see that the Hand, the Congress Party, Ramakant Khalap, their brother wins and goes to Delhi, that is the feeling here. The path is clear. The competition is not tough. We are moving forward. Less said the better about the five terms of the sitting MP. We must bury the imposition of dictatorship and allow democracy to thrive,” he added.
