PANJIM: The Principal District and Sessions Court, Panjim on Wednesday dismissed the bail application of 42-year-old Sachin Venu Gopal Kurup from Pune, who was the alleged car driver in the Vagator accident case.

It may be recalled that Kurup, a Pune native was arrested by the Anjuna Police on November 12 for allegedly driving his SUV in a reckless and negligent manner into the premises of La Maior Roma Resort and for crushing to death the resort owner Remedia Mary Albuquerque (57) and injuring two other resort staff. 

While dismissing the bail application, the Court observed that the accused was driving the SUV without a valid driving licence and that the insurance of the vehicle had expired. The Principal District and Sessions Court Judge Sherin Paul stated that the accused would jump bail or abscond.

Earlier, the Court had adjourned the matter to Wednesday after arguments. Arguing on behalf of Kurup, Adv Raju Poulekar brought to the notice of the Court that both – alcohol and drug test of the applicant had come negative and that he be granted bail.

The Court had also issued notices to the victim’s son, who was the complainant. 

The tragedy had occurred on November 12, when the victim Remedia Mary Albuquerque was standing outside the reception area speaking on her phone to a client when the accused drove a Haryana registered SUV bearing registration number HR-13-G-1831, at full speed, knocked her down.

Shiv Mangal Dindo (22) and Rupa Paras (31) were the two resort staff, who were injured in the accident.
