Cow slaughter accused denied bail; remanded in police custody

VALPOI: The Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class at Valpoi rejected the bail application of Usman Khan, who was arrested on Friday for the offence of illegally slaughtering 19 cows. The accused was remanded in police custody for two days.

According to the Valpoi police, the accused illegally slaughtered 19 cows in Valpoi on the occasion of Bakri Eid. The slaughter took place just 500 metres away from Valpoi police station. The skulls of the bovines were buried in a pit dug up using a JCB machine, near a cashew factory. 

Meanwhile, the residents of Valpoi say that that Usman Khan should not given bail as, previously, he was involved in many illegal cow slaughter cases the Valpoi town. 

On Thursday, 19 cow skulls were recovered near a cashew factory, in Valpoi, by Govansh Suraksha Abhiyan, which later filed a complaint at the Valpoi police station. The police visited the site and excavated 17 cow skeletons and cow skin.Govansh Suraksha Abhiyan President Hanuman Parab had alleged that, since last six years, illegal cow slaughtering has been going on in Valpoi town. 

He had demanded that an investigation be launched to track down those who slaughtered the cows illegally.
