PANJIM: The Crime Branch busted a fake call centre operating in Chimbel, area of Tiswadi taluka and arrested six persons.
The Crime Branch conducted raid at midnight on Wednesday at a bungalow in Chinchwada, Chimbel, and caught the persons red-handed while operating a fake call centre which duped several USA nationals under the pretext of approving their loans, medical billing advances, etc.
The Crime Branch has arrested Akash Hiteshbhai Pancholi (28), Thremho Kechingba (23), Sanam Ringsa Bathari (23), Anand Sujeet Sengyung (26), Hemring Sonai Girisa (22) and 19-year-old Lairim Monmohan Hojai. Police said the accused hailed from Ahmedabad in Gujarat and Nagaland. Six laptops with accessories, mobile phones, all worth Rs 10 lakh, have been seized.
The police have registered an offence and are investigating into the number of persons and the amount of money the fake call centre has cheated unsuspecting persons. According to the primary investigation the arrested persons were in touch with some Indians residing in America who provided the accused persons information of the medical bills and loans of American nationals.
Officials of Crime Branch led by Police Inspector Vishwajit Chodankar and staff consisting of Sanjay Pednekar, Sarvesh Khandolkar, Ishwar Kaskar, Ashok Gaude and Sneha Javeer, along with DySP Suraj Halarnkar conducted the raid.
