CUNCOLIM: Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar inaugurated the water supply project at Nayabandh in Cuncolim, recently.

“It will be the topmost priority of the State government that no village in the State will be thirsty for drinking water and that every household will have enough drinking water as part of its mission,” said Kavlekar.

The Deputy Chief Minister said despite many economic and other problems during the COVID pandemic, the government has not put any restrictions on the development works.

“For the last several years, the people of these rural areas right from Ambaulim, Betul, Velim and Cola areas have not been receiving the required amount of drinking water.  Due to less supply of water from sources, the PWD was forced to release water in one panchayat on one day and other panchayat area the next day. This circus will now end due to laying of parallel water pipeline and Quepem constituency would soon be self-sufficient for drinking water,” the Deputy Chief Minister assured.

PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar said, “The department has proposed an additional 100 MLD capacity water treatment plant to cater to South Goa’s needs and after approval from the government, the capacity of Salaulim Water Treatment Plant will increase from 400 MLD to 500 MLD per day and if all goes well the project will be completed in eight months.”

“The water supply project at Nayabandh will benefit about 35,000 people including those from Ambaulim, Velim, Betul, Cuncolim and Cola.  The government will provide water from a reservoir at Cuncolim-Nayabandh through an eight-km water pipeline.  Rs 8.48 crore was spent on this important project,” he said.

Cuncolim MLA Clafasio Dias also spoke.
