Curtailing Assembly Session to one day is hypocrisy: MLA

MAPUSA: Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaute on Tuesday said that curtailing one day Assembly Session is hypocrisy.

“The government is making it compulsory for the school teachers to attend their schools, welcoming tourists. However, the instance of curtailing Assembly Session to mere one day due to COVID fear is an instance of hypocrisy. If the Speaker is afraid of COVID virus then he can hold online or virtual Assembly Session.”

“This was the most important Assembly Session with several issues to discuss. This session was also supposed to pass the Budget which I had demanded to be revisit and reset due to COVID,” Khaute said.

“The unemployment issue, the revival of economic situation in the State and providing job opportunity is what we need to discuss. There are hike in electricity and water bills which also needs to be addressed. There are so many issues pertinent to the State to be stated for which holding Assembly is important,” he said.

Khaute further said that he was not called or received a letter informing about the taluka level review meeting on COVID.

“I was not aware about the taluka level meeting conveyed to discuss COVID. I came to know about it through newspapers,” Khaute added.

“I don’t know why BJP is politicising COVID issue. Also why are the ministers conveying meetings? There are elected MLAs who should be given responsibility to look after their constituencies. The government is leaving no stone unturned to politicise this issue,” Khaute alleged.
