Curti youth arrested for kidnap  and murder of minor girlfriend

PONDA: One Mansoor Hussain Shaikh (21), a resident of Bablyakhali, Nagzar-Curti, was arrested by Ponda police on Friday for the kidnap and murder case of his minor girlfriend.

The body of the 17-year-old girl was found, on Friday morning, in a highly decomposed state. It was found by some Borim locals who had gone for collecting cashew nuts in the jungle area close to a WRD tank. Strong stench led the cashew nut collectors to the highly decomposed body lying in the pump house. Then the locals immediately informed the police about the same.

The case was cracked by the police within ten hours of receiving the information about the body. According to police, the accused strangulated the girl in the pump house of WRD tank. 

He was friendly with the girl, from Ponda, for almost a year. However, recently their relationship strained and the girl broke up from the accused. Subsequently, the parents of the girl were planning for her marriage with another boy. 

On April 13, the girl reportedly went to the Ponda Sub District Hospital for medical check up and since then she was missing. 

According to police, the accused met the girl at the hospital and took her on his scooter to the pump house at Baithokhol hillock, where he confronted her over the marriage arrangement with another boy. Later, he assaulted and strangulated her to death, and then fled.

According to Ponda DySP Nelson Albuquerque, on questioning local suspects and family members of the girl, the police learnt that the accused was friendly the victim since last one year and recently they broke off. Albuquerque said that the information gleaned from their investigation led the police to the accused, who was arrested on Friday.

A team comprising South Goa SP Arvind Gawas, Ponda DySP Nelson Albuquerque, Ponda PI Mohan Gaude and other police personnel worked hard to nab the accused. 

DIG Parmaditya visited Ponda police station and congratulated the team for nabbing the accused within ten hours. He also gave a cash reward of Rs 15,000, to all those worked on the case.
