PONDA: The stray cattle menace plaguing the road-users of Curti-Khandepar villages may soon find a solution, with the bovines set to be impounded.

Curti-Khandepar Sarpanch Naved Tehsildar said that the panchayat has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Siqueri Goshala (cattle shelter) to round up all the stray cattle and house them at the shelter. Accompanied by Panch member Bika Kerkar, Tehsildar told media persons that there were frequent road accidents reported due to stray cattle, and they had to take serious note of the danger posed to commuters by the herds of cows and buffaloes seen resting on the streets, or wandering amongst traffic in search of food.

“The Panchayat has decided to make the National Highway and other roads a cattle-free zone. All the cattle found on the streets will be caught and sent to the Goshala, where they will be taken care of,” he added.

He said that the stray cattle not only risk the lives of motorists, but also get killed or maimed in these vehicular mishaps, and locals were demanding a solution at the gram sabha.

Last year, four stray animals were killed and three were seriously injured in accidents on the National Highway at Curti.
