MARGAO: Curtorim Congress MLA Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco has written to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Law Minister Nilesh Cabral to conduct comprehensive and thorough checks on all cases where migrants have changed their names and adopted Goan names and surnames.

Questioning why migrants are adopting Goan names, Reginaldo said that many migrants have come to Goa and purchased houses in Goa which no one has a problem with.

“But now they are changing their names and taking on a Goan identity. One person has changed his name from Arun Lamani to Ramesh Naik. I want such cases to be thoroughly investigated and find out how many such cases have taken place and who is behind this,” he said.

He said such people could be changing their name to take over property which has a similar name on Form I & XIV. “Lamani cannot become a Naik. A Goan can change their name to another Goan name. Government must act because people will not take it for granted anymore,” he warned.
