Cyber Crime police probe false “news item” circulated on WhatsApp targetting Dempo group

PANJIM: A representative of V S Dempo Holdings Private Limited has lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime of Goa Police with regards to news item being circulated on WhatsApp.

According to police, Cyber Crime Police Station, Ribandar, received a complaint from Sharmila S Prabhu, authorised representative of V S Dempo Holdings Pvt Ltd, stating that a false and fabricated “news item” or screen shot is circulated on WhatsApp showing Picture of Pallavi Dempo, one of the Directors in the Dempo Group of Companies, with false information that “Business Tie-Up expected between Dempo and Adani Groups after Polls”.

Sharmila has stated in the complaint that neither a tie up nor is there a tie up proposed or any understanding, joint venture or otherwise a business deal between both the companies and the content of “news item” or screen shot circulated on WhatsApp is false, fabricated and maliciously circulated.

The Cyber Crime Police said it has initiated necessary legal action in the complaint and requested the public not to circulate the post.

Pallavi Dempo is the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from South Goa Lok Sabha constituency for the general elections scheduled on May 7.
