Two of the vehicle drivers dumped the garbage in the vicinity and the locals called the police and had them arrested. The police arrested Mohammad Bateri from Zariwado Davorlim and Sahabjan Sayyed from Davorlim under the section 34(5) of IP Act and later released them on a bail bond of Rs 1000 each. Both have been booked for the offence of dumping garbage in open place. A couple of days back irate locals had taken the matter in their hand and had decided to stop outsiders from dumping garbage in Ramnagri. Monday was the first success for the youth.

According to the local people at around 10 am, two rickshaws and a van came and dumped garbage in the open space in Ramnagri. The locals accordingly intercepted them and called the police. The people claim that much of the garbage comes from rented houses which do not have any provision for garbage disposal. “The local panch was called today to show her what is happening here, but she did not turn up. This shows the seriousness of handling garbage issue amongst the locals self governing bodies,” said Alex Travasso.
