Davorlim-Dicarpale P’yat hit by second no-trust motion in seven months

MARGAO: For the second time in a seven-month period, a no-confidence motion has been initiated within the Davorlim-Dicarpale village panchayat, targeting the Sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch.

Just seven months ago, Sarpanch Santosh Naik and Deputy Sarpanch Carmino Carvalho had assumed their respective positions, displacing the previous officeholders, Herculano Niasso and Michelle Miranda.

Out of the 11 panch members, six have tabled a no-confidence motion against Santosh and Carmino, citing various reasons, including their failure to involve other members in decision-making regarding development works in the village

It may be recalled that in October 2023, Niasso and Michelle were removed from their posts after a no-confidence motion was initiated against them by the opposition group. The recurring skirmishes and no-trust motions indicate ongoing disagreements within the governing body.

The panch members who signed the no-confidence motion include Menino Joao Colaco, Michelle Miranda, Myla Rocha, Francisco Dias, Vidhi Varak and Herculano Niasso. It has been alleged that the current Sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch have abused their powers.
