MARGAO: The Public Works Department (PWD) on Tuesday said it will explore the possibility of constructing a flyover at Bellem junction on the accident-prone western bypass junction following demands from residents of Navelim.
PWD officials said that the department has received representation from the people of Navelim demanding the construction of a flyover bridge at the Bellem junction. The officials also said that traffic flow on the bypass has become smoother after the installation of traffic signals.
“The State PWD has already been directed to appoint a consultant to prepare a proposal of elevated structure at this junction. The work will be taken up after approval by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways,” said PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral.
It may be recalled that gram sabha resolutions had also been passed at panchayats of Navelim and Telaulim village panchayats demanding for a flyover. Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar had also raised concerns about accidents at this four-road junction.
