PONDA: The three bypass roads namely Curti - Ponda, Bethora-Borim and Dhavlim-Farmagudi built by government two decades ago to divert the NH traffic has became accident prone zone due to truck parking on both sides of road. The trucks are also parked dangerously on sharp turns.
Locals have been demanding truck terminus since past one decade. Harishchandra Naik at Daag Kapileshwarim said the road side dangerous truck parking on both side block front views and poses risk to lives of commuters as well as locals.
The truck drivers who park their truck along Dhavlim Farmagudi bypass road said in absence of truck terminus they are facing hardships and are left with no space to park their vehicles.
“We face lot of difficulties including cooking food, absence of toilet facilities etc. Since Ponda is centrally located, we urge the government to construct a truck terminus in Ponda so that we can stay here and transport goods to every industrial estate in Goa,” the drivers said.
The issue of dangerous truck parking often dominates in Kavlem panchayat gram sabha. The locals have even raised the issue in Curti-Khandepar gram sabha demanding with traffic department to clear the truck parking at Curti.
Sources in Traffic department said the drivers are often fined for dangerous parking. However lack of parking space forces them to park their vehicles at roadside.
