Designate new GTDC-developed parking area to ice laden trucks at Benaulim Beach

Designate new GTDC-developed parking area to ice laden trucks at Benaulim Beach

Citizen Rekha Sarin Benaulim

With the fishing season in full flow again and bumper catches being netted every day, it is a good time for the fishermen, but there is a flip side too.

Lots of large ice laden trucks from Karnataka and Maharashtra are clogging the Benaulim Beach parking for transportation of fish to the neighbouring States. The beach becomes crowded with no parking available for normal beach goers. Moreover, the melting ice to preserve the catch leaves a stench which is very hard to bear. Water drips all across the parking area and makes it slushy and slippery. The traditional ramponkars are often seen haggling with the trade agents to get the best possible price which is not a pretty sight either.

I would request the village panchayat authorities to designate the new GTDC-developed new parking area opposite Fairfield Marriott Hotel, which is hardly utilised (moreover it has become a den for anti-social elements and drunkards) for wholesale trade of fish.

This would enable the parking hard to be kept clean and also would not inconvenience regular beach goers.
