PANJIM: Despite weather warning issued by the Indian Meteorological Department and most importantly, ongoing enforcement of State-wide curfew to curb increasing COVID-19 cases; certain cases of errant visitors to the beach are still being reported.

As per Drishti’s press release, Manoj Kumar Goyal (46), a native of Haryana, ventured into Baga Beach waters around 7.30 am for a swim. Drishti lifesaver Meghraj Juvatkar noticed the tourist and requested him to retreat back to the shore.

The agency informed that the tourist returned to the shore as instructed after which the lifesaver explained to him that there was a weather warning and that the sea was rough with a presence of underwater currents. Red flags have clearly been placed and the sea is a no-swim zone.

“A short while later the lifesaver suddenly noticed that the same male was floating in the water and realised that he ventured into the waters again despite being warned by the lifesaver. The lifesaver rushed into the waters to retrieve the male while a call was placed to an ambulance by the backup team,” reads the press statement.

“The victim was brought to shore and vitals were checked. As the pulse was missing, CPR was commenced immediately. An AED was connected to the victim and oxygen was administered. The victim was taken to the waiting ambulance staff and was rushed to the Candolim PHC. Upon a diagnostic check-up at the hospital, unfortunately the doctor declared that the male had succumbed,” it said.
