PANJIM: One high school is set to begin classes in the new education complex at Cujira when schools reopen on June 4, while the move of two higher secondary schools to the complex will be delayed by a little over a fortnight.
Dhempe Higher Secondary School of Arts & Science and Dempo HSS of Commerce, which are currently operating from Miramar, confirmed relocating to the newly-constructed complex by June 22. “The infrastructure and logistics are in place. Over 95 percent work is complete,” administrator Sunil Prabhudesai told Herald.
To avoid chaos amongst the students, particularly parents of the students who have passed the SSC exam and are seeking admission in the higher secondaries, the authorities have worked out a method through the prospectus to inform the prospective candidates of the move.
“A circular has been displayed on the notice board. We have also ensured that each prospectus contains a written slip informing students that classes will henceforth be conducted from the Cujira complex,” Dhempe HSS Principal Siddha Poojary stated.
The delay in shifting will however, not hamper the studies of Class XII as the teaching faculty has decided to conduct classes from June 4 to June 20 in the existing premises. The days lost for Class XI will be covered up through extra classes.
Far more developed than the present campus, Prabhudesai said that the two-storey building, including the ground floor, has 23 classrooms, a laboratory to accommodate 60 students at a time, common ladies room for 150 students, a full-fledged medical centre and day care centre for children of the HSS staff in addition to other facilities. Moreover, the library has the capacity to stock 50,000 books, which is four times more than the present library.
On the other hand, the only school – Dr K B Hedgewar High School – that has confirmed shifting to Cujira will begin classes as slated, on June 4. “We will begin classes for Class I to X from June 4 at the new premises. The students and parents have already been informed to prevent confusion at the last moment,” Principal Vilas Satarkar told Herald. The school that recently introduced a higher secondary section has decided to continue those classes as well as that of pre-primary from the existing infrastructure.
Three other high schools – Mushtifund Saunsthan, Rosary High School in Miramar and Anjuman Nurul Islam High School, near Panjim Church – will move to the common infrastructure probably by this year-end.
