
PANJIM: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed happiness on the construction of National Waterways-68 that has reduced the distance between Panjim to Vasco in Goa by almost nine kilometre and the journey between the two towns can now be completed in just 20 minutes.
Earlier, Panjim to Vasco distance was approx 32 kms and travel time was approximately 45 minutes.
Responding to the tweet threads by Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Tourism, Shripad Naik, Modi said that this connectivity between Panjim to Vasco in Goa will provide relief to the people as well as promote tourism.
The country’s first floating jetty was built on the bank of River Mandovi in Panjim-Goa and was inaugurated in February 2020. Followed by this, in 2021, a floating jetty was inaugurated at Old Goa. With this, the State is set to revive its old mode of travel via waterways considering that vehicular traffic on the roads has increased manifold.
In a series of tweets, Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shripad Naik said that when there is a confluence of policy, intention and technology like PM Gati Shakti Yojana and technology like floating jetty; success stories like floating jetty of Goa are created.
He said that floating jetty technology has made the navigation of Goa a reality. “Floating jetties are not only cheaper than traditional jetties but their lifespan of over 50 years makes them a suitable choice,” he said, adding that floating jetty project also don’t require CRZ and environment clearance.
