MARGAO: Today there is a wave of fear in the State and nation over COVID-19 pandemic. Public are scared and we doctors need to be careful when we make a statement, said Dr Venkatesh Hegde, one of the leading doctors from Margao.

Reacting to the statement made by Dr Shekar Salkar, Hegde also said that one thing Dr Salkar had not mentioned is that Omicron variant is not a deadly virus, though it spreads fast, but will not create serious conditions in the patients or deaths, as was by the Delta.

“The positive thing is that the Omicron is not deadly, no serious effects. The symptoms will be milder like throat pain, fever, cough, running nose but no severe symptoms as the virus does not affect the lungs. No injury to the lungs and no symptoms such as lack of smell or taste, as it will not affect the brain,” he stated.

He further said another good thing about the Omicron variant is it has very mild symptoms in the people, who have taken two doses of vaccine. As per the doctor’s opinion, mask, distancing, no crowd and double vaccination will help us to fight Omicron.
