VASCO: Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) Deputy Chairman G P Rai on Sunday said that the port is only EXIM Gate and clarified that the doubling of railway tracks was not a port project.

Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of distribution of the prizes to the winners of eighth annual Mormugao Ship Agents Association Cricket Tournament, Rai said, "The port is an EXIM Gateway and the doubling of tracks is a railway project and not a port project. The port definitely cannot survive without road and rail connectivity and while doubling of railway tracks may be good for the port but it does not mean that it is only for the port."

Stating that transportation of iron ore from Karnataka fetches good revenue to the port, Rai said that normally the iron ore used to be handled at Goa but the new trend is that ore is coming from Karnataka to the port generating good revenue for the MPA.
