Dowry death case: Accused summoned to Maina-Curtorim police station on Dec 5

MARGAO: The Maina-Curtorim police have served a notice under Section 41 of CrPC to Patorciana Fernandes, the accused from Gounloy-Nuvem, booked for allegedly harassing and subjecting her daughter-in-law to cruelty for demanding dowry.

Sources from Maina-Curtorim police said that Patorciana Fernandes has been instructed to appear at the police station on December 5.

The offence was registered against her on November 30, under section 304-B of IPC, based on the order issued in the judgment in the court of the Deputy Collector and Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Salcete. The accusation pertains to Patorciana subjecting her daughter-in-law, Samanta Fernandes, 30, to cruelty and harassment for dowry, leading to Samanta’s death due to burn injuries at Goa Medical College (GMC) Bambolim on August 30, after she was allegedly set ablaze at her residence in Nuvem.

Police mentioned that, at present, a notice under section 41 CrPC has been issued, and further action will be determined in due course.
