Driver involved in Shantinagar fatal self accident case held

VASCO: The Vasco Police on Monday arrested David D’Cruz of Khareawado, Vasco who was driving car which was involved in the Shantinagar fatal self-accident claiming one life on Friday midnight.

According to the police, the Kharewado resident was arrested for rash and negligent driving endangering human life.

David allegedly drove his vehicle in a rash and negligent manner endangering human lives while proceeding from Varunapuri towards Dabolim Airport side. When David reached near Sanjay Engineering Services at Shantinagar, he lost control over the vehicle  and hit the railing of a house belonging to Alfredo Almeida.

The car flung in the air and fell on house causing grievous injuries to Saharsh Bhosale and Sanjyot Borker (19) who were in the car. Borker succumbed to his injuries.   

An offence under sections 281, 125 (b) and 106 of the BNS has been registered. Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Rohan Nageshkar under the guidance of Vasco PI Kapil Nayak and overall guidance of Mormugao DySP Salim Shaikh. 

On Monday, Vasco MLA Krishna ‘Daji’ Salkar raised the issue during zero hour in the Legislative Assembly and urged the government to erect crash barriers so as to ensure the safety of the residents in accident-prone zones from Shantinagar to Gandhinagar on the national highway.
