CANACONA: The serene atmosphere of Agonda beach was disrupted on Friday morning when tourists, apparently under the influence of alcohol, caused a ruckus by driving their SUV onto the sandy shore. The Karnataka-registered vehicle was seen creating a disturbance near the beach shore around 7.30 am, with the occupants reportedly inebriated.

Locals, witnessing the reckless behaviour, attempted to intervene, informing the tourists that vehicles were prohibited in the area and urging them not to proceed. However, the intoxicated tourists seemed determined to drive onto the beach, ignoring the warnings. Despite multiple attempts by locals to deter them, the tourists accelerated and recklessly maneuverer their vehicle on the sand, ultimately getting it stuck. Concerned by the situation, locals promptly notified the local police. However, they expressed frustration, claiming that the police did not take immediate action. This led to further agitation among the locals, who urged the authorities to address the issue to prevent similar incidents in the future.

In response, Canacona PI Harish Desai refuted claims of inaction, stating that the police had indeed fined the tourists for their rash and negligent driving.
