PERNEM: The Pernem Police arrested two hotel employees for allegedly assaulting a Russian woman with the sole intention to steal her valuables.
The incident occurred at the Grand Inn hotel at Morjim on Friday night when two unfamiliar men sneaked into Aigul Davletianova’s room through the window when she was fast asleep, grabbed her hands and tried to cover her mouth to prevent her from raising an alarm resulting in injuries to her lips and was left with an uprooted tooth.
However, Davletianova mustered strength, stood up, managed to free herself from the clutches of the marauding intruders and fled.
After a thorough enquiry, police rounded up the hotel staff and arrested Abinash Goria, and Mohammad Faizal Khan, both aged 29 and 26 hailing from Assam and Jharkhand and were employed at the resort as a waiter and electrician respectively.
Pernem DySP Rajesh Kumar stated that the two have revealed that they had entered the room of the victim to commit the theft.
An offence under Section 325 read with 34 of IPC has been registered. The two have been remanded to police custody and investigations are on.
This is third attack reported in the coastal belt. The other two have been reported in Anjuna. In the first incident five persons were arrested for assaulting a Delhi tourist and in the second two Camurlim men were arrested for assaulting a pair of Mumbai tourists.
