Margao: Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Babu Kavlekar held a joint meeting on Tuesday in Margao with the South Goa District Collector Ajit Roy, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Dr Ira Almeida, South Goa Superintendent of Police (SP) Pankaj Kumar Singh, Deputy Director of Fire Services, Police inspectors of all Salcete Police Stations, Konkan Railway representatives, and others involved in the govt’s strategy against COVID-19.
Kavlekar has been entrusted with the duty of reviewing the functioning of these stakeholders in Salcete, as well as Canacona.
While Kavlekar chaired the meeting, Fisheries Minister Filipe Neri Rodrigues, SGPDA Chairman and Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa, were also present. Kavlekar said that the meeting was to ensure that there is no deficiency in the system. At the meeting he also listened to the various problems faced by police and medical staff.
"Difficulties in containment zones were discussed. The issue that people are not cooperating was also discussed. We have also discussed the preparation if the spread increases" he said.
He also discussed how each constituency should be prepared to house COVIDpatients if cases in those areas increase as well on solving the problems of the locals.
It was also decided to convene another meeting on Friday, with entire Salcete taluka MLAs wherein the legislators will be asked to create awareness amongst the people about COVID-19.
“A detailed discussion was held. Awareness through media and other means was discussed. The Collector has consented for the use of loud speakers to make announcements,” said Rodrigues who’s also the Velim MLA; while adding, “We anticipate an increase in cases and are ready to face the challenges.
Responding to people holding the govt responsible for the increase in cases, Kavlekar said the govt has taken all the ‘full precautions to stop the spread of the virus’.
