VASCO: The Deputy Collector Office, Mormugao on Monday conducted personal hearings for the land acquisition for the South Western Railway double tracking.

Goencho Ekvott assisted all the villagers who had raised objections to the land acquisition of their ancestral properties for the proposed SWR double tracking and arranged a battery of lawyers to save Goa from illegal land acquisition for transporting coal, which will only benefit a crony capitalist.

In a press release issued by SWR, senior advocate Carlos Alvares Ferreira and his team along with Goa Foundation led by Dr Claude Alvares represented the villagers and argued their case before the competent authority that the land acquisition notification had lapsed quoting various Sections of the Railway and Other Applicable Acts.

The Railway authority representatives, who were present, could not give a satisfactory answer as this was to be the final hearing and disposal of the case and hence the Deputy Collector granted the Railways additional time to present their case and have fixed the next hearing on April 29.

Goencho Ekvott also stated that sadly the government is the biggest violator of the law and the Revenue Minister should act on the officers, who are acquiring our land without following legal procedures.
