BICHOLIM: Bicholim Deputy Collector Sachin Desai has decided to inspect the Shirgao Mines on Tuesday following a video “showing” illegal excavation carried out by the mining company at the site. 

According to available information, the video was shot by the Shirgao residents, which shows the company carrying out excavation rather than just transporting ore. 

"We had gone to the mine to submit our demands and we were surprised to see that the company was involved in excavation of ore rather than just transportation. We have submitted the video to the Deputy Collector, who has decided to inspect the mine tomorrow," Shirgao sarpanch Sadanand Gaonkar informed. 

It may be recalled that a special meeting of Shirgao residents and mining companies was held in the office of deputy collector wherein the company was given two days time limit to decide upon the payment of pending water bills of the Shirgao residents. 

Since last  two years the mining company did not pay the water bill of the Shirgao residents that forced the residents to halt mining transportation from the village. 

The residents demanded that the company should immediately pay the pending bills and then only carry out the ore transport from the village.
