Economic Survey shows increase in tourist footfalls

Contrary to stakeholders’ claim of a drop in tourist footfalls, the State government in its Economic Survey 2018-19 has reported an increase of 4.69 per cent in tourist arrivals in the State this season compared to the previous year. 

“There has been an increase of 4.69 percent in the arrival of tourists as compared to last year. Up to October 2018, the State received 54.80 lakh tourists. 31 cruise ships with 45,934 passengers arrived in the State till December 2018,” the survey document, which was tabled in the House on Wednesday, stated.

The number of tourists who visited Goa till December 31, last month are 54,80,773. This include 48,76,359 domestic tourists and foreign tourist number were 6,04,414. Also, till December, 290 flights arrived in the State with a total 83,294 passengers.

The government has said that Tourism Department is in the process of appointing new Public Relations (PR) agency to improve the perception of Goa in the minds of foreign and domestic tourists.
