PANJIM: State-level task force on National Education Policy (NEP) chairman Subhash Shirodkar on Tuesday said the road map for implementation of the new education policy will be submitted to the government in March, 2021.

The State government wants to implement the policy from the Academic Year 2021-22.

Speaking to media persons, Shirodkar said schools, which do not have classes from primary to higher secondary level under one roof, will have to create additional infrastructure, considering that the policy has expanded the scope of foundational education, increasing the school-going years from 3 to 18 instead of the prevalent 6 to 14 years.

One of the sweeping reforms will be the transition from the decades-old 10+2 format to 5+3+3+4 school structure.

“There are around 50 educational premises, which have classes from nursery to higher secondary. However, there are more than 60 institutes, which do not offer this facility. In those cases, additional infrastructure will have to be put in place,” Shirodkar said.

He said that the committee is currently focusing on infrastructure creation and to sync anganwadis and nurseries, which will become formal education, from the coming year.

Shirodkar also said that in Class VI, VII and VIII, vocational education would be introduced.

The government has already set up five sub-committees to assist the State-level taskforce. These sub-committees include foundation stage sub-committee, with former higher education director Bhaskar Nayak as its coordinator; preparatory stage and middle stage sub-committee will be under former Goa Board chairman Jose Rebello and secondary stage sub-committee will be headed by Goa Board chairman Ramkrishna Samant.

These sub-committees will submit their observations and recommendations to the taskforce committee.
