Educationist Fr Savio passes away at GMC

CUNCOLIM: Educationist Fr Dominic Savio Fernandes, who was admitted in Goa Medical College Hospital at Bambolim after a heart attack, breathed his last on Sunday morning.

CUNCOLIM: Educationist Fr Dominic Savio Fernandes, who was admitted in Goa Medical College Hospital at Bambolim after a heart attack, breathed his last on Sunday morning.

His dead body will brought to Quepem on Tuesday at 3 pm for funeral and final rights will take place at Salesian Cemetery at Fatorda.

Meanwhile, the President of Goa Headmasters Association Vithoba Dessai, Quepem MLA Chandrakant Kavlekar, Quepem Municipal Council Chairperson Rahul Pereira, PTA members, teachers have condoled the death of Fr Fernandes.

Born on April 7, 1957, Fr Fernandes was ordained as priest on December 29, 1990. He was instrumental in bringing positive changes in the field of education. 

A great visionary in education, he had brought in many changes at Pope John High School at Quepem -- a multi-facility library, Atal Thinkers laboratory, mathematic laboratory, well equipped grass ground, audio visual room, internet in every class room, TV and LCD projectors in each class.

He was the first to make education environment child friendly in school; was the recipient of State Best teacher Award. He had served Goa Headmaster Association as president for two terms. At the time of his death he was the advisor of Goa Headmaster Association.
