PANJIM: The North Goa District Collector Mamu Hage has issued an order restricting movement of heavy vehicles into Panjim between 7 am to 7 pm from Sawantwadi and Banastarim.

The order was passed after it was reported that due to the traffic closure of Atal Setu heavy/multi axel vehicles are forced to use Mandovi Bridge, which has led to traffic congestion on NH 66 at Porvorim and Panjim. Several photos and videos surfaced on social media that showed how general public, ambulances carrying patients and emergency services were seen stuck in traffic jams.

As there is no any holding space along NH 66 from Patradevi to Porvorim the heavy vehicles will be stopped at Banda (Maharashtra) and the vehicles coming from Banastarim side towards Panjim will be diverted at Banastarim Bridge. The restriction will remain inforce till March 27, 2023.

The North Goa Collector Mamu Hage had earlier ordered the closure of the Atal Setu till March 27 during day and night time to shift heavy machines used for resurfacing works.
