PANJIM: Constitution expert and former Member of Parliament, Advocate Amrut Kansar died on Monday morning following a brief illness. The funeral cortege will leave his Porvorim residence on Tuesday morning at 11am for St Inez crematorium.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, activists and lawyers across the State sent condolence messages.
In his message the Chief Minister said, “He was a versatile advocate and a scholar of law who had penned several articles in Marathi as well as in English dailies. His guidance to the government in Mayem Evacuee Property matter is invaluable.”
Former MP, advocate Ramakant Khalap, also condoled Kansar’s demise stating he was not only a lawyer and constitutional expert but was also a good teacher. “Kasar was a left oriented socialist thinker and throughout his life cherished his ideas of socialism and work for the betterment of downtrodden, especially tenants and mundkars,” Khalap said.
Advocate Aires Rodrigues said Goa has lost a very righteous friend of the poor. “Though very soft-spoken, Kansar aggressively advocated many issues affecting the deprived and the unprivileged. A very honest and thorough gentleman he always was, while leading a life with an ever so unblemished record. A true tribute to the departed Kansar by Goa’s legal fraternity would be to walk the path that he so always did with his head always high,” he said.
Advocate Rui Fereira from Panjim said that Kansar was full of humility although knowledgeable in his field. “Having dedicated his time towards social work he was ever willing to uplift the marginalised in their legal disputes fighting injustice,” he said.
Kansar also taught law for a while and his writings are sought for reference works.
