Farmers place various demands before govt

Plead for crop insurance, hike in support price for cashews, coconuts and rice

MARGAO: Keeping in mind the upcoming budget for the State, the Adarsh Krishi Sahakari Sanstha on behalf of agriculturists has placed several demands before the government including crop insurance under natural calamities. 

Prakash Velip, Chairman of Adarsh Krishi Sahakari Sanstha stated that he met Chief Minister  Pramod Sawant on Thursday, at Panjim, and placed farmers’ demands before the government. 

He has demanded Rs 150 per kg as a minimum support price for cashews, besides Rs 15,000 per hectare as a support price for organic cashews. 

“Organic cashews should get Rs 1,500 per hectare for certification and administration cost and paddy support price should be Rs 25 per kg. We have demanded that mahilas should get Rs 5000 per month for harvesting cashews for four months,” said Velip. 

He further informed that they have asked the government to have a cashew regional office in Goa so that farmers are provided with the better service besides demanding for a better support price for coconuts. 

"We have requested the government to provide fencing, solar equipment with more subsidies, besides Kisan Cards to all farmers in the State,” said Velip.
